April 18, 2011

Dear Everyone,

This week has been a great one. To start off, Miles Murray was baptized and confirmed this weekend. What a spiritual experience! It was a wonderful experience seeing him enter the waters of baptism and to be washed cleaned of his sins. He is such an amazing kid and Elder Lyman and I have been anxious to see it happen!

The work in general has been going wonderful! This last week we got a new ward mission leader. We love Brother Romney very much and appreciate his hard work and dedication, but we feel that he has been a little overwhelmed and so it's good for him to be able to take a break. Brother Odell also seems like a solid guy, and he definitely has a fire inside him. That's what elder Lyman and I are so excited about. Brother Odell is excited and is pushing the work forward.

Elder Lyman these past few weeks has been getting an experience of my sleeping... (For lack of a better word) occurrences. One night late, he woke up to me sitting up talking. At first, he thought I was talking on the phone, but then he realized the phone was on the charger on the nightstand between our beds. I of course had no recollection of the happenings of the night whatsoever. Other than him being a little scared to sleep in the same room as me though, we are doing wonderfully and just pushing forward and enjoying every minute of the day.

Some exciting news, Elder Oaks and Elder Rasband are coming to Dallas to give a Bishop's and Stake President's training and he is going to spend a few hours with all the missionaries in the Texas Dallas Mission! We are all so very excited and can't wait to see him! When we heard the news, we could hardly contain ourselves! An apostle of the Lord is coming to speak to us! We are definitely looking forward to that day!

The work has been picking up some more and Elder Lyman and I are having a blast and just enjoying the work! Lately I have been running into a ton of people that I have connections with. First, I met a man by the name of brother Mecham, who you guessed it, is related to Kent Mecham, he is his nephew. Also, this man's brother is at Midwestern... in the BELLAIR ward! Ha-ha. then there is also a guy in my ward, Brother Lyman that grew up in the desert palms ward (and if you think it's funny that he has the same last name as my companion, it's no coincidence.. they are 3rd cousins! ha-ha). Lastly, there is a woman in my ward that knows Taryn. SMALL WORLD huh?!

Ha-ha, other than that, Elder Lyman and I are working hard and just having a blast! I have finally found out how to work my hardest and still enjoy it! It has taken me a while, but I have found it, and I just love serving these people! We have a few people that we are working with and as soon as we start seeing them regularly, we believe they will be awesome and they are ready to progress!

I have to tell you about Brian really quick. We found him as a complete answer to my prayers. I had been getting discouraged, feeling like I wasn't accomplishing anything and I was praying for help from Heavenly Father, then a few Saturdays ago, we were driving to our apartment and I saw a man raking his leaves out front, and we thought maybe we should stop and help him out. So we got out and he denied our service, but he basically begged us to come back. He is so prepared and is so ready to hear the gospel! We have been trying to get a return appointment from him, but he is struggling financially right now, and is working every second he is awake. He has a few medical problems, so we haven't gotten in to teach him an actual lesson yet, but he is way excited for us to start teaching him as soon as he has the time! He is such a selfless guy, and tries to live like the Savior did, but he still recognizes this hole in his life, and admits that he knows we have the answer. We are just praying and asking Heavenly Father to help us get in and teach him!

This week in general has been amazing, and I hope and pray for y'all back home.

Love, Elder Layton
