(note from Larett-I would have worried that Riley didn't write but knowing that if anything serious was wrong, we would have heard from the mission president, but I won't lie, I was annoyed that I didn't hear from him. Now I am just a proud Mom and of course, not annoyed at all.)
Mom,
Sorry I didn't get to email you on Monday, we were in meetings all day long. Guess what though? The reason I was in meetings all day was because I was asked to be a TRAINER! I get to train a new missionary! His name is Elder McLain. He is such a great missionary and is anxious to work. It is a good reminder of what it was like to be a young, spry missionary. I was very surprised when I got the phone call, and I am constantly nervous because training is a lot of responsibility. I feel like I have to watch every little thing that I do. President Durrant didn't ease the tension either. In the meeting on Monday he told all of the trainers that what we do, is what our companion will think is what a missionary does, and that the impact we have on our companion will last all throughout their mission and throughout the rest of their life. If that doesn't make you just want to abdicate that responsibility I don't know what would. It is kind of scary, but at the same time really exciting. He is really excited for the work and pushes me hard. It is a blessing to learn from a new missionary.
I really hope you got the job you wanted! Would it be working nights if you got it? I hope not.
This last week, 2 weeks actually, have been great! So many great things happened! The highlight was for sure, Ana's baptism; I will send a picture of that on Monday. I am sad to be saying goodbye to Elder Duke, but I am excited for this new companionship.
I hope all is well back in Arizona, and everyone is doing okay.
Love Elder Layton
PS I won't be writing a group letter since I will be writing again in 3 days.
